Thanks for your thoughts on this topic. I know where that guy is coming from also... I spent quite a while in the same rut (years!) and am finally pulling myself out of it (well, with some help from the Schoolism class, too). I look forward to every Monday morning for the new class lectures and also every Thursday when I get my critique back and get more and more inspired to keep at it.

I know it may sound a little odd, but this podcast had my eyes tearing up a wee bit... Ryan's story and frustrations are pretty darn close to my own. It is something I've been battling with for the past few years, especially those concerning my classwork at college and my own feelings in regards to the current/future state of my portfolio.

Thank you so much for sharing the letter, your experiences and your advice Stephen. It really was the boost this little doodler needed.

Hey, this is Ryan (the guy who wrote the letter), and Stephen, I really can't thank you enough for your insight. Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement from someone who knows exactly what you're going through. It has been a real pick-me-up, and I've been drawing all day now. Can't wait for the next one!

It is extremely gratifying that someone with your credentials really seems to make an effort, and to genuinely take an interest in well being of all of us less experienced artists. Thanks again for your insight, the lessons and podcasts have saved me years of frustration.
thanks.

Another Great Podcast! Thanks for taking the time to put these together. I certainly feel that way sometimes as well. I've heard the artist Scott Burdick say, "Nothing great was ever created without enthusiasm." How right he is. Thanks Stephen for being a source of inspiration and encouragement!!

All I can say is WOW. What inspiring words and thoughts. Your words have help inspirer me not only in my character designs but also in my character animation. Now and then I listen to your words and it helps me find what I'm looking for. Thank you Stephen Silver.

Hi Stephen, It was nice seeing you last night. Sorry I created a stink....unkowingly stealing the cheesecake from your daughter! Hey, check out my new blog... I set it up taking your advice. If you have any ideas... should I put a counter, links etc... let me know. I will add photos tomorrow when I go to my work computer. Thanks! Love, Joey

Stephen,
This podcast really speaks to what I think a lot of artists feel from time to time. I know I have. When I stopped an art career mid-stream to stay at home for years and raise a baby, there were times when I thought there was nothing more frightening then a blank peice of paper and maybe, I'd never draw again. Then I took a trip by myself to the Norman Rockwell Museum and signed on to a weekly life drawing session 3 years ago, started taking on some freelance one year ago...like you said- baby steps.. and now, taking your class. You've got a gift to teach and inspire, critique and encourage while never sounding condenscending or superior considering your success. Thanks a bunch for everything!

This really meant a lot to me. I've struggled with anxiety for quite a while now and just going to therapy and taking medication (though not the solution for everyone) seems to help me. I look forward to drawing and don't over analyze the lack of experience that i have. I can have fun and experiment now... Thanks for this ARTcast Mr. Silver... you have always been an inspiration to me and now even more so.

Thanks again Stephen for another awesome inspirational podcast. Just the thing I needed to take into the new year. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Thank You! this podcast hit the spot. Your words of encouragement were just what I needed. I especially liked the 70yr old man story, not that I'm that old though I'm certainly older than most that are dead set on making a living in art. This advice along with Louie del Carmen's advice about there being no time limit on your lifes work have given me the boost to knuckle down, work hard and my dreams will come true.

Keep the podcasts coming and again, thank you.

thanks a lot for posting this! I think it's really important for budding artists to hear this type of talk regarding failure and motivation. art is hard!! nobody ever tells you that when you're young, but it is. I think everyone can relate to Ryan's experience. Thank you for taking the time to respond and post this podcast - you're doing everyone a great service!!
