SKETCHBOOK DIARY 01

Testing out a new camera, sorry for the motion delay and the image not always in the frame, this was my first one, so the others will improve as time goes by. This is me carrying around my sketchbook, sketching in public places.

dude this was actually very helpful. what a great idea, fun to watch your process. maybe a tripod would help?
the video reminded me of those old saturday night live skits with al franken and the satellite receiver strapped on his head. hahaha!

Wow, thanks for taking the time to show us a little about your process. Public sketching has always been daunting for me, and this vid inspires me to make sure i have my sketchbook on me at all times.

Thanks for posting this, it's always nice to see how other folks do things :) Everything I've read has always shown me to draw the skeleton first, but I like how your 'blocking out the shapes' works.

I hope to be doing much more drawing like that very soon as I start my intro to drawing class next week. I'll keep an eye out for more of these videos for sure :)

i wanted to add one thing: after i thought about how amazing it is that you are talking, drawing, holding a camera all at the same time! hahah you need a little camera monkey!

You need an assistant to hold the camera for you! If it meant being able to watch you draw in person I wouldn't mind - if only I were on the same continent.
Either ways I look forward to the next one - it's really great to have some sort of direction and know what to do when sketching outside.

It's amazing how quickly you can sketch and how you draw a perfect circle in 2 seconds.

I always needed a quiet place and a flat surface to draw. I wonder if it'll be difficult to do the same thing out in the open.

Steve-

Thanks for posting this, I've always try to catch your audio posts about animation and this was helpfull in seeing how to really block a subject in. In art school when I took life drawing classes, the idea of gesture was mor on scribble lines to make up the body. This way of using shapes, circule, square, etc is Far more helpfull and clear to understand. Thanks

Hey Stephen, this is an awesome sketch video blog, I love seeing you sketch especially out there in the real world. I too just started taking my sketchbook everywhere and sketching what I can, mostly on a tiny moleskine sketchbook that can easily be stored in a pocket. Sketching is really relaxing and it's an awesome way to train your eye. Thanks, looking forward to more video sketch blogs.
