Character Design Seminar

I will be conducting a character design class that will expose my philosophies on design and drawing from life. Students will explore caricature and character through observation. A portion of this class will involve me and you drawing from a costumed model.

I like to call this guy hunch. I was drawing at Daphnes when out of the corner of my eye I saw him walk by. I did'nt think about drawing him until his image came back into my head about 20 minutes later. Bottom line is it is "Never to late to remember".

These guys were taking there sweet old time at the ATM. This is what I recalled.

I was drawing at home last night and just started drawing this crotesque picture. In a way it kind of reminded me of my dad when he sleeps watching the T.V, although he looks nothing like this and is not this fat. However, it was my memory of an image that inspired this rough sketch.

Thought I would throw in one of my sketchbook pages from lunch. This is what I do every tuesday and thursday with a friend of mine Marcelo. I sit in the corner of Daphnies Greek food cafe, order my Pita and fries and ice tea. As soon as I am done eating which takes no more than 10 minutes, I am off and sketching.

A fine patron in line for food. I saw him on my way out of the restaurant.

This guy was a great find. I had almost given trying to spot someone, and then he came zooming by in his cart on the backlot of Sony.

This was a women in line to by movie tickets that I spotted. It's not my favorite but I thought I should post it anyway.

Another interesting human, that I spotted. This guy had one objective, and was totally unaware that I was taking my mental snapshot.

This was a guy who was working at the cinema, I knew he was eyeballing me. So I tried to pretend I was looking at something else, I did'nt get the greatest snapshot of him in my head, But this is what I remembered.

I saw him walking into the movie theater

This was a stage hand on the sony lot. Once again I was walking back from lunch, spotted this guy, took in as much info as possible and when I returned back to my desk,I drew him. this is a great excersise
