Artcast Show 01 Download I thought I would attempt to try something new. This is the first of many to come. Please leave any questions in the comments for me to answer in the next cast.
Stephen, When i first picked up your book i couldn't stop looking at it or carrying it around. I knew that you would be my biggest source for inspiration, not because i copy your style so much as get inspired by how much fun i can tell you have doing your artwork. I can't wait for more podcasts! Thanks for all you'll never know you've done for me.
Awesome idea Stephen! I'm sure this will be a great success. I'll definitely be amongst your listeners. You mention you like to give lectures, is that only in the states or would you travel outside the country as well? The reason why I'm asking is that I'm sure that the animation school (The Animation Workshop www.animwork.dk) I graduated from in Denmark would be very interested. It's one of the leading animation schools with only top notch teachers from the industry. Together with Richard Williams they also put together "Richard Williams Masterclass" that is now taught all over the world. well, just a thought:) Looking forward to your next show.
wow! i was like a kid in a toy store when i saw this! great idea! you're artwork is already inspirational and now there's some of the method behind your creativity. thanks!
Well, the guys at PENNY ARCADE did it (but only occasionally now), so why not you? ;)
As an aspiring cartoonist, I've been a fan of your work (thanks to Mike "Gabe" Krahulik for the inspiration, as well as watching CLERKS, KIM POSSIBLE and DANNY PHANTOM), and I check out your blog regularly. I'm impressed at the idea of a podcast!
I'm not sure if we should post our questions here or not, but I guess it doesn't matter...
When exploring faces and drawing characitures, I often times get stuck or into a rut drawing the same idea over and over... What are some of the exercises you do in your imagination, or even on paper to break out of a drawing rut???
It was really interesting listening to your first podcast. I'm looking forward to hearing more. Great Nieman quote! As to inspiration, I have to agree with many of the above posters, about your work being an inspiration (not to mention your blog... I finally started one too!). I've told you in person before how much I dig your drawings, but I figured I'd throw it out here for all to see!
Great idea. You should do more rambling though, because that's where all the nuggets of artistic gold lie. Try taking a few shots next time, I think you'll enjoy it more! "Aspire to Inspire before you Expire" is going to be my new philosophy in life. Thanks for inspiring man!
Stephen Silver was born in London, England on August 30th 1972. Aspiring to be a
professional artist his whole life and knowing drawing would be his vocation, Silver got
his professional start in 1992 drawing caricatures in amusement parks. In 1993 he went
on to establish his own illustration company called Silvertoons. By 1997 Silver was
hired by Warner Bros. Television Animation as a character designer, and has been
working in the animation industry ever since.
He has worked as Character Designer and Supervisor for Disney Television Animation,
Sony Feature Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, designing characters such as
"Kim Possible", "Danny Phantom" and Kevin Smith's "Clerks" the animated series, to
name a few. Silver is the author and artist of seven self-published books on the art of
sketching, caricature and life drawing. In addition to working freelance full time, he also
teaches an online character design course at schoolism.com. Silver names three treasures to success
in life that give him what it takes to keep on drawing: passion, desire and determination.
